Research organization

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) was created on 1st July 2010.  It is an administrative public establishment accountable to the French Ministries of Health, Agriculture, the Environment, Labour and Consumer Affairs.

ANSES integrates the European and international perspectives in all of its activities by participating in networks of excellence, and by establishing special cooperation partnerships with certain members of these networks. Risk assessment activities are already firmly rooted in the European context as a result of regulatory harmonisation of controlled products, and through risk assessments regarding changes to EU regulatory policy, or participation in expert appraisal activities over and above those carried out by European agencies.

In this context, some important activities that maintain the Agency’s influence include the development of institutional relations with counterpart agencies, awareness of their projects, and promotion of ANSES expertise through the creation of information exchange networks or the participation of its scientists in projects undertaken by other organisations.

A crucial player in providing scientific advice on the major challenges of development.

The French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD), an internationally recognised multi-disciplinary organisation, is a French public research establishment operating under the joint authority of the French Ministry for Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. It takes an original approach to research, expertise, training and knowledge-sharing for the benefit of countries and regions, making science and innovation key drivers in their development.

Scientific progress is necessary to further sustainable and human development: the IRD (French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development) carries this conviction with it wherever it is present, and wherever it works with its partners.
The IRD is a key French player on the international development agenda. It works based on an original model: equitable scientific partnership with developing countries, primarily those in the intertropical regions and the Mediterranean area. The IRD believes that only this model allows us to design solutions which are adapted to the challenges that humans and the planet are facing: pandemics, climate change, humanitarian and political crises, etc. Because development challenges are challenges for the whole planet.

The National School of Architecture of Brittany is the oldest school of architecture in France’s province. The school has been installed since 1990 in premises designed by the architect Patrick Berger and is located near the center of Rennes, on a triangular plot bordered on the north by the canal of «Ille-et-Rance» and by the « Ille» at the south-west.

This school has been programmed to accommodate 450 students (1 amphitheater with 100 seats, 190-seat classroom, 2 small rooms with 50 seats each, and a 60-seat diploma room).

The courses offered at the ENSA Bretagne offer a complete initial training which will allow the student to obtain the Diploma of Studies in Architecture (DEEA). Then, the Master’s courses allow the student to «master a critical thinking relating to the specifics architecture problems». Students now master autonomously the design of an architectural project and the processes of construction in their relations to various contexts and scales, and with reference to different uses, techniques and temporalities.

Public Institution of higher education and research, Ensa Nantes is one of the 20 schools of architecture under the supervision of the ministry of Culture.

The State Architect Diploma can be obtained either in the framework of a Bachelor degree then a Masters, or through continuing vocational training. With the Bachelors/Masters training, the State Architect Diploma is obtained after 5 years studies. The teaching is structured around two broad field, architecture and architecture-related knowledge, to help students acquire knowledge specific to the «project culture» and be capable of adapting to different businesses and professional practices as to sustainable development, naval architecture, theater Design…

Dual architect/engineer courses, to overcome the distinction between the two archetypal specializations of architect and engineer, ENSA Nantes and the École Centrale de Nantes spurred the two establishments to propose this dual course to the students in a spirit of reciprocity. The goal is not to create a new professional body, just to encourage a dual culture as a means of developing new professional practices in technical execution and in building project management.
